On Tuesday I went to stay with my friend/knitting teacher Maureen for a few hours. She is a bit laid up for the next few weeks, but we got to hang out for a while.
I knitted a scarf using a hank of Link by Berocco. I had purchased this last fall in some black/gray shades. This was an unusual selection for me as I usually pick bright colors. In a moment of serendipity, this color will match the new winter jacket I got which is black with gray fur (fake) around the hood.
I also have two or three kits for thrummed items - slippers and a hat. I found a great tutorial for this technigue at http://www.helloyarn.com/wp/?p=425 (Sorry, my Link button is not working). A LYS has some breakfast club classes in thrummed mittens which I don't think I can do, but this tutorial might do the trick for me.
Still have Cat Bordhi's Never Get Cold hat and a traveling scarf OTN.

Gosh, it's been a long time
So in 2010, I apparently abandoned by yarn diet resolution by April. They say when you are on a diet, if you stumble, you should get right back on the diet and continue forth. I didn't do that.
For some reason, the last couple of months of 2011 found me increasing my stash with hat yarn and scarf yarn, justified by the fact that I need a dog walking hat. Suddenly, I have enough yarn for three hats. I am working on one. I did manage in 2011 to go through all of my yarn and pull out some yarn that I will NEVER use and donated it to a school program. I also have a potential buyer for some yarn purchased to knit the Great American Afghan with. So that would be a destash.
In 2011, I was a member of the Cookie A Sock Club. While I loved being a member of the club, there were only two yarns that I really loved, and the rest were ok to yuck (for me - other people loved them, they just weren't to my taste.) I did destash two of the skeins, but I offset that by buying an additional skein of one of the colors that I liked. Unfortunately, the skein I got was not as pretty as the one that I had, and no one contacted me when I posted it was available.
For 2012, I had signed up for the second year of Cookie's club, PLUS the Tsarina of Tsocks Club, since I have been lusting after The Abbey pattern. After the last shipment of the Cookie A yarn, which was too much like a combo of the first month and the second or fourth month, I asked for a refund, so it will just be the Tsock Club.
So, 2012, I will attempt to reduce, reduce, reduce my consumption of all new knitting things: yarn, books, magazines, tools, gadgets, patterns, etc. and work on using up some of what I have. The goal is to start to enjoy what I have. However, if the pattern for The Abbey becomes available, I will have to use the excuse that a diet means you still get to eat, just not as much.
Happy New Year to all.
